THE EXPERIENCE

We’ll set off from Ushuaia and take National Route 3. Our first stop will be Cañadon del Toro where we’ll appreciate different characteristic landscapes from Tierra del Fuego, such as vast peat bogs and the so-called tree cemetery”. This area of trees cut down by convicts takes its name from the time when the prison was first opened in Ushuaia. This is an important part of the history of the prison. In this area, we´ll hike along the edge of the river Pipo River and we’ll go through the centenarian forests until we reach a small waterfall.

We’ll continue our journey to Ensenada Zaratiegui Bay to admire a combination of habitats that make this park so special and unique: the Andes, the forest and the sea merge into one place. There we’ll visit the historical Tierra del Fuego Post Office where, if opened, you could stamp your passport or send a postcard from the end of the continent.  From here, we’ll start another hike on the shore of the Beagle Channel through an evergreen beech forest with access to amazing beaches..

We’ll continue to Lapataia River and walk upriver to its source in Acigami Lake (Roca), which is one of the most unforgettable spots in Tierra del Fuego. Finally, we’ll arrive in Lapataia Bay, where we’ll go trekking on different short trails and learn about environments where the beaver has had a great impact. We’ll also get to viewpoints with breathtaking sights, and finish our trip in “end of the Americas”. There, we’ll get to the southern end of Pan-american highway which connects Alaska to this spot in the Park.
